Clean up your email for Free
By Rochelle Jourdan ©

Maybe you're just like me and get somewhat annoyed when your cyber contacts forward you a piece of e-mail with specks of "greater than" symbols (>>) preceding each line like ants on their way to a picnic. The broken lines that continuous forwarding of an email produces disrupts my reading to the point that I often delete the message unread. You may think there's nothing you can do to remedy this unpleasantness but there is something; it's called eCleaner.  Working alongside your email program, (AOL too!) eCleaner is FREEware that strips away those pesky signs and reformats the paragraphs for easier reading.  It also strips HTML code, leaving a clean document of content for web crafters to redesign their pages with. eCleaner is the perfect application to help your friends and family read with clarity, those witty missives that come across your screen that you feel deemed to share.

While I'm at it, when you are copying the desired message to be cleaned, leave the other people's addresses out of the process. When people forward an unedited email, they are putting all their friends and family and THEIR friends and families email addresses in danger of being collected by Spammers.  Spammers are those unscrupulous snakes who send out unsolicited garbage to unsuspecting folks that don't guard their email address like they guard their phone number.

To make it easier for you to start sending "litter free" email, Steve Chin, the developer of eCleaner, has given me permission to distribute it here. Right now, it is only available for the Windows OS (95/98/NT/2000).  Also, if you are using Outlook 2000, he has created an add in module that you can use to incorporate the eCleaner function directly into the email toolbar. I have yet to see an email program that has this feature built in so if you find one that does, please let me know which program it is and I'll review it.

Just save it to a place you will remember, (I always make a new file for downloads) and after the download is complete, double click the "clean201.exe" file to start the installation.  Follow the directions given to install this small, simple program. To learn more about this product, visit Steve's site . Going to his site will open another browser window, simply close or minimize that window to get back here.  Click here for some beginner tips on working in your file manager.
