Women's Journeys - An Empowerment Place

My Inner Voice
By Michelle Duncan

There is a little voice inside my head
that echoes words of wisdom said.
"Honey, listen to your heart" you'd say,
"What do Dads know anyway?"

That little voice says, "Remember  Sam..."
tickling till I couldn't breathe,
towel fights that ran us down hall,
kite flying, bike riding, we did it all.

When those waves of sadness hit,
and I wonder how I can go on
my inner voice says to me,
"Listen Tootsie and you'll see"

Morning talks over coffee cups
Learning how to gap my plugs
Wondering where the days had gone
Since we used Goldie to clear those logs.

All  those things you shared with me
I'll pass on you will see.
Hanging by your ankles, tales of the past
legacies, heirlooms, treasures all.

When times are hard, I'll close my eyes
and listen back to days gone by
I love you Daddy, by heart and choice
My friend, my  buddy, my inner voice.
