It has been a bad computer day. Every little annoying problem it could bring up, it did. Things that my computer did yesterday, it could not do today. I want it to print: It says can't find the printer.
I want it to dial up the internet: it says "can't find your modem." I go to open the e-mail attachments: it can't find a program to look at them.
It all boils down to this: Just because you spent two thousand dollars on something electronic, doesn't mean it will work any better that those $5.99 @*&%* christmas lights! Don't pretend you don't know what
I'm talkin' about, you know, the christmas lights. The ones you put in the garage last January when they were working perfectly. The ones that seem to have developed problems sitting in the attic all by themselves.
While we're at it, let's talk about car parts. It started yesterday without problem. Why is it that this particular morning the whatchamacallit no longer functions? Was it the stress of being left alone overnight?
Are those parts only good for 4,391 starts exactly? What makes light bulbs blow their fuse? How many times can you turn one on and off before it goes *pop*? The thing is...we know it's going to happen eventually.
It's all right with us that some day we will flip a switch or turn a knob or press a button and we'll see a flash of light and then it's out to the kitchen, or were they in the closet? Honey, do we have any
lightbulbs? I don't know, did you check the kitchen? Where does it end?
I can't tell you how it gets to me when manufacturers and consumers alike say things like "You have to expect some problems, it's a computer" or "It's a car" Why? Why do I expect problems? I
can understand with age, or rough wear and tear, but if I buy a radio, and a week later it messes up, I take it back. I don't want six repairs, or, "Dave" to get back to me on Thursday. You take the bad
one and give me a good one.
I know, I know, what world am I living in. Oh, I don't know. The one where I order my food and it comes to me the way I ordered it or I don't accept it. The one where I drive my new car off the lot and it works
fine or I take it right back. That world. AND I'LL SHOUT IT FROM THE ROOFTOPS THAT I HAVE HAD ENOUGH OF SHODDY WORKMANSHIP AND I'M, NOT GOING TO TAKE IT ANYMORE!! SO YOU TAKE YOUR FAULTY FLASHLIGHTS, YOUR SOFTWARE
"GLITCHES", YOUR WEAK BATTERIES, AND YOUR LEMON VEHICLES AND PUT THEM WHERE THEY'LL BE MOST UNCOMFORTABLE BECAUSE WE DON'T WANT'EM ANYMORE AND WE WON'T ACCEPT THEM! THERE WILL BE A MARCH RIGHT THROUGH YOUR
PLACE OF BUSINESS AND ALL THE JUNK YOU HAVE PAWNED ON US AS "QUIRKY" WILL BE LEFT IN THE MIDDLE OF YOUR OFFICE FLOOR. WE CONSUMERS HAVE HAD ENOUGH!!!!!!
It's been a bad computer day.
