My Dream for This Planet
By Rochelle Jourdan ©

After having complete freedom being raised by my busy, single Mother, I left home at the age of 16 when she tried to strip me of those very freedoms I was brought up with. I realized very few people thought like me or at least spoke up that they might. I rejected politics because of what I saw my mother go through, as she held the seat of Vice Mayor. Sure, I voted in the major elections but didn't realize politics pertained to me and the way I lived until I landed outside of Boston, at the age of 25. In Massachusetts, if there's a law or a tax in any states mind, it is so.

I began to investigate the proposals on the ballot so I could form my own opinion and vote accordingly in all the elections that I was allowed to vote in. Unfortunately in this "enlightened" land, the USA, if you don't register with the Democratic or Republican party, you are not allowed to vote on the important measures that undoubtedly will affect your life. To me, this is absurd and I am ashamed that our American people have sat idly by, condoning this "power over" the people by 2 major parties for so many years. Politics is the power of the people! Was that not part of the original plan enacted over 200 years ago? We have progressed in such miniscule ways since then.

I moved to Germany with my German born and raised "then" fiancé, at the age of 28. I learned what it felt like to be a foreigner trying to earn an honest wage. I had to jump through many legal hoops and some not so legal ones to get an honest job in a country that I was desperately trying to learn the language of. I was able to separate myself from my Mother Land and the spoon fed horror stories told by emotionless faces of the American media. I realized then, that the American way was NOT necessarily the "right or best" way. Nor was the German way and especially NOT the Neo-Nazi way. I'm proud to have told 2 Neo-Nazis exactly how I felt about their bigotry and the fact that I lived to tell the story ;-). I'll say, they were not happy to hear my words but they inspired me to write "Join Hearts". Later, when we immigrated my husband to America, we followed all the rules imposed on us by this Government, only to have more red tape to cut through later on. For the record, I've moved to 10 states including Germany and have lived in 40 homes by the time I landed here in Silicon Valley, CA at 31, currently 34. During my travels, I learned that many people of the World want to come together and tell their stories to help bridge the distances our governments, (even local governments within America) have created.

This is supposedly our country, a portion of our World. One, we allow those with a lot of money to rule our lives. Many corporations, lobbyists and politicians are clearly passing laws only in the best interests of lining their pockets with more money. Some of the TV media stare blankly and report of this corruption with a straight face, as to not let the public know that they too are human. Many innocent people suffer the consequences of the inhumane laws being passed while those destroyers of spirits, murderous people commit the most horrific crimes, are glorified. Women and children are being punished by the system for being abandoned by the fathers, who pay no child support. How many must you see living out of shopping carts before YOU take action to change the laws? This could happen to you or me, too!

In my opinion, many people have become passive and some of those who haven't are making very loud noises, (perhaps a WAKE UP call?) with their bombings, killings and total disrespect for human life. We, as a society must reject the desensitization to the horrors that surround us and speak up on behalf of justice for humanity.

The first step is to find out your individual passions and speak about them in any forum, as we have done here with the creation of "Women's  Journeys" web site. Your words can be heard, here, if you take a few moments toward the betterment of society and for the love of humanity.

If you have the right to vote, VOTE! If you think it's crazy that you can vote only for certain things, *CHANGE IT.* Write or call your Senator. Did you know they get less than 100 calls per month? This is an incredibly passive society that won't spend $1. to share their opinion with those who hold the power in their hands. Most of the representatives have email addresses but must hear that people want a change before they can act.

I for one, am not standing idly by, watching the corruption of our land. I have created this site so we can take our power BACK. With that power over our own lives, FIRST, we can share more with our communities, both virtual and terra.

For kicks, I dare you to smile and say "Hi" to your neighbor or anybody who passes you on the street. Perhaps if we start looking each other in the eye instead of fearing the unknown, we can create a nicer atmosphere in which to live.

The funny thing about the creation of this site is that my mom, a successful Writer/Editor and former Vice Mayor, asked me if I intended to put up a political section. She thinks my views are very idealistic and I have a "bleeding heart" outlook of this World. My answer is this, "Mother, every section is a political section even if the readers aren't aware of it because politics are in every aspect of human life!" The oppression of so many people has blinded them, (us) to not realize they, (we) too must become involved in the healing of the World. All of which is a Political Movement!

I trust the people of our Earth have been blessed - finally - with the semi-public use of the Internet. Our governments held this form of media captive since the 1960's, so only the elite few were privileged to have access.  They gradually opened the gates to those who actually knew about it in the late 70's. Now, in 1998, we are experiencing a rapid cyber population explosion. This is truly our time, (before they pull the plug on our freedom of speech) to cross the sexes, races, ages, religions and classes to become ONE people. One People, all precious with rights and freedom to be, as long as it HARMS NONE! I am a proud member of this planet and happy that I can share with so many I would never have been able to reach otherwise. I'd like to welcome the World to the greatness of the Internet!

Please help me achieve this dream to awaken the dampened souls of our World. Share Women's Journeys with your friends and send in your submissions. I certainly can't do it alone but am doing my part, please do your part and find your Passion! Together, we can achieve empowerment and point others toward their own.

After voting on June 2, (the day after I wrote this) I learned that here in CA, we are all allowed to vote in the primary election regardless of party affiliation. So, we have made some progress. Unfortunately, only 40% of those registered to vote, did, I was one person who did! Voter apathy can and will bring this World down! Please speak up and use your right.
